I I have read chapters 3 and 4 in The Outsiders. I think that is a very good book so far because it leaves you with a mystery for every chapter on what is going to happen next.
The main events that happened in the book was after the movie, Cherry and Marcia didnt have a ride home from the movie so Two-Bit gave them a ride home. They had to walk over to Two-Bits to get his car and as they were walking and talking, a blue mustang came riding really slow down the street. It was the socs driving the car. The socs were going out with Marcia and Cherry but they got into a fight over drinking. The car passed them very slowly but didnt stop. They started talking again and a few minutes later the car came again even slower and it stopped right by them. The two socs got out of the car and started talking to Marcia and Cherry about what their fight. The girls left with the socs for a ride home and left Two-Bit, Johnny, and Pony Boy alone. Two-Bit left Johnny and Pony Boy alone and they both fell asleep on a ditch. They woke up and Pony Boy was past his curfue so he ran home. Darry was up waiting for him and Darry was so mad that he slapped Pony Boy across the face. Pony Boy ran out of the house and ran to Johnny walking down the street. They both walked to a closed pool and sat down and talked. Later the same car that picked up Marcia and Cherry showed up next to them. The socs were very drunk and one of them threw Pony Boy into the cold water. Pony Boy woke up by the pool and asked Johnny what happened. Johnny said that they were going to beat him up so Johnny pulled out his switch blade and killed one of the Socs.
Johnny and Pony Boy talked about what they were going to do after what happened so they went to see Dally at a party. Dally told them to jump on a train that takes them to an old church where they could stay. Dally gave them 50 dollars and a gun. Johnny and Pony Boy left for the old church as soon as possible.
I really like this chapter because everything happens so fast and Johnny, the quietest boy ended up killing one of the socs.
What I think that is going to happen next is Pony Boy and Johnny end up staying in the church for a long time and the cops find out where they are staying and they are going to end up going to jail for the rest of their life.
I think that it was brave of Johnny to show them that he was not afraid and that he was protecting his friend but Johnny didnt have to kill one of the socs. It was very brave of Johnny to stand up for his friend though!
Im reading a book in class called The Outsiders written by S.E. Hinton. So far I have got up to chapters 1 and 2 and the book is pretty good. In chapters 1 and 2 what happens is there are these two groups of people all seperated up. The poor people are called the Greasers and the rich people are called the Socs. The Socs and the Greaseres basicly just beat each other up and threaten eachother. There is a boy who is a Greaser, he is 14 years old and his name is Ponyboy. Ponyboy has a friend who is named Johnny. Ponyboy has 2 brothers who is named Darry and Soda. They are both older than him. They all hang out with a gang who is from the greasers.
One big event that happened in the book is a while back Johnny got mugged. He got hurt really badly and the greasers found him in a corner. ever since that happened Johnny has been really scared and shy of the socs. Another time was Ponyboy was walking home from school by himself and a socs gang came after him. Darry and Soda saw what was happening and fought them away. Ponyboy was very lucky that his brothers were there. Another main event was Ponyboy and Johnny went to a movie with Dally. All three of them sat behind 2 girls that are from the socs end and Dally wouldnt stop bugging them. Finally Johhny told him to leave them alone and Dally left. The girls asked 2 of the boys to sit with them and they did. Ponyboy and Johnny felt very lucky because they couldnt believe that they were with 2 girls from the socs.
One part I liked was how Ponyboy started talking to one of the girls named Cherry about how hard he has it to live and how his oldest brother Darry is always mean to him and Soda is the only one there for him after his parents died. Also he told the story to Cherry about what happened and how the Socs all wen tand ganged up on Johnny and nearly killed him. Cherry told Ponyboy that all of the socs arent bad like that and she told him that things are rough all over.
Hey Everyone!
Im just updating my blog and telling some more interesting things about me. I tried out for volleyball a few weeks ago and so far its been really fun. We played against Cranberry twice, they came to our school and we went to their school. This coming Monday we are going to play against Wabowden and then if we play good we might go their to play against them. I cant wait to play against them.
I just got four days off of school and we only had to go to school on Tuesday and Wednesday. The four days that I had off of school I hung out with my friends mostly and I sat inside and watched t.v. Yesterday I had public skating and me and my friends went skating. I think that there is skating tonight but im not going to go because I have volleyball practise tonight and I would be too sore to skate. Well I’ll write to you late bye!:)

For the first question which is define power, I heard power can be money, electricity, love, and control over something or somebody.
Number 2 is how does power affect personal relationships? People came up with love, force, relationships can brake-up a relationship. You can also lose your friends if you have a personal relationship and something comes between it.
Number 3 is what role does power play in a person’s desicion making process? I heard them talk about you need power to make decisions. That gives us power to speak out loud. I think that this idea was pretty good because none of the people in my chat room thought or talked about that.
Number 4 is why is having power important to a person? Having power is important to a person because it helps take control. I think that having power is important to a person because if you have no power you cant speak up for yourself but if you do have power you can do alot of things and that makes you feel important.
The Veldt and The Bet are two very good stories and they are both similar in a way and they also have some differences.
In The Bet the story was written a long time ago in 1889. The Veldt was written in 1953 so they are very big differences. The Veldt took place in a house that was made of this huge machine that does everything for you. In the house there is a room what is called the nursery, thats what the children play in. They change the nursery into Africa and thier parents end up getting eaten by lions. In The Bet the story also takes place in a house where the banker and the lawyer both live. The lawyer is in a house in a room by himself for 15 years. Both of the stories take place in a house.
In The Bet the theme is in Africa with a whole bunch of wild animals. Wendy and Peter end up making the lions eat their parents so the parents end up dying. In “TheVeldt “the lawyer stays in a room for 15 years to show the banker that he can stay in prison for 15 years. The half dead lawyer escapes 5 minutes before he is to be let out. In both stories people are dead or they are dying. Also in both stories their isalot of power going on. The children have the power of everything and the lawyer has the power because he can walk out of that room and lose 2 million rubles or he can stay in that room for 15 years and get 2 million rubles. I think that if you have a hugedesicion to make and you make the right choice, you have alot of power. The children in The Bet have alot of power too but they don’t use it in a good way. They could choose to kill their parents or to let them live and they chose to kill their parents.
I think that both stories have a few things in common when you think of things like power and the setting. I think that there isalot of power going on in the stories.

Here are four questions that we had to answer in a group over a computer. The questions are:
1. Define power
2. How does power affect personal relationships?
3. the questions: What role does power play in a persons decision making progress?
4. Why is having power important to a person?
We all answered the questions and we came up with alot of answers for each question.
#1. Power can be many things like relationships, money, knowledge, and the government. Power can be good or bad no matter which way you use it in.
#2. Power can affect personal relationships in many ways. You can be really greedy and show no respect to your friends and they will stop liking you. If your friend tells you secrets and is trusting you and you go and tell someone else your friend will think I cant trust this person anymore maybe I should stop telling him ( or her things.) Alot of people can be afraid of you if you have power. They can try to avoid you. If you have power you can also use it in a good way too. If you have power you can be nice and do good deeds for people and also you can stop your friends from doing bad things.
#3. If you have a choice and you choose the right desicion you have power that you use in a good way. If you have power you get to say what you want when you want. When you choose the right desicion choose what you want not for other people.
#4. Having power is important to a person because you get a say in everything that happens. You can say what you want when you want. If you have power you can stand up for what you believe in but people with no power can still stand up for what they believe in too but they might not get their way.
The stories The Veldt and The Bet are some very good stories that I have read in class. The Veldt is a very weird, interesting story. It gets you thinking about what is going to happen next.
The Veldt is about how these children have a nursery in their house and when you wish you were in New York you would be there.
The children control their parents and the parents end up getting tired of what is happening to their children’s lives. The house is built with a machine and the machine does everything for you. The children wish that they were in Africa and they play in there all the time. The parents don’t like what is happening to their kids and they end up getting locked in the nursery and getting killed by there children and the wild animals.
The Bet is about how this banker makes a bet with a lawyer about staying in jail for 15 years. They were talking about punishment and they said which would be better to go to jail and get your life sucked out of you or to just get killed in seconds and not have to live the misery. When the banker made that bet he was very rich at the time. He had too much money to count. The lawyer had to stay in jail for 15 years and if he stayed he would get the 2 million rubles (dollars) from the banker. Over the years the lawyer became very smart and read and wrote the whole time. He wasn’t able to see or hear a human and the door was unlocked so he could walk out of the bet any time he wanted to. 5 minutes before the lawyer was to be let out he escaped.
In The Veldt the parents get very sick of giving the children everything they want. The children get what they want when they want and that is called desire. Want is another word for desire. If you want something you desire it. In The Bet and The Veldt they both desire something. The banker desires the 2 million rubles and so do the lawyer. The children, Wendy and Peter both desire the nursery so badly that they would kill their parents to keep it. They also desire the machine that ties their shoes, gives them a bath, and prepares their food for them to eat. Need is something different. In both of the stories I have read it doesn’t talk about someone needing something. Desire is a lot different than need. They are 2 different words and meanings.
I think that we should not have everything we desire because if we do then we are very spoiled and we expect that we are going to get what we want again. Its just like when you stay out late and you come home and you don’t get in trouble you expect that you are aloud to stay out later then before and not get in trouble. This is what is happening to Wendy and Peter. Wendy and Peter don’t have to do anything for them selves and they got that nursery to play in and now they don’t listen to their parents at all because they don’t need their parents. The Bet is a little different because no one is spoiled at what they want.
I think that just because you desire something it doesn’t mean that you have to have it.
